01Who he is.

Kevin Boakye is a light heavyweight from Hamburg. On paper he is Kevin Boakye-Schumann, born in 1998 in the city he still fights for. In the ring he is quieter than the posters suggest: settled before the bell, composed when the noise rises, always aware of where he stands in a round.

He is the first Talent of the week in the Journal, and we start with him because his story is built the right way round. Titles first, then the professional ring. Discipline first, then the attention.

02The soldier's discipline.

Before he turned professional, Boakye was a Sportsoldat, a sport soldier in the Bundeswehr. It is how the German armed forces support elite athletes: a uniform, a salary and a structure that leaves room for full-time training. It also leaves a mark.

In that system early mornings are not a sacrifice, they are the schedule. Calm is not a personality trait, it is a habit, repeated until it holds under pressure. That is the fighter Hamburg gets.

Calm is not weakness.
Calm is control.

03Amateur pedigree.

The amateur record is where that discipline shows up on paper. Boakye became German champion, at under-21 level in 2018 and at elite level in 2019. In 2021 he won silver at the European Championships, the Vize-Europameister title that still opens every introduction. Between 2021 and 2023 he won the Boxing World Cup three times.

Those are not easy titles. Amateur boxing at that level means short fights against opponents who have trained their whole lives too, with almost no time to recover from a slow start. It teaches a fighter to be sharp from the first exchange.

04The move to pro.

In 2024 he stepped into the professional ranks. In 2025 he signed a professional contract in the United States, a sign that people well beyond Germany had been following the amateur results.

The professional record is still short, and it is still clean. He is unbeaten as a professional, carrying the same habits from the amateur ranks and the army into longer fights and smaller gloves.

05What's next.

On Saturday 3 October 2026, Boakye fights at home, at Grosse Freiheit 36 in Hamburg. His opponent had not been confirmed when we went to press, so we will not guess at a name.

What matters is the setting: a home crowd, a small room close to the ring, and a fighter who has spent his whole career preparing for exactly this kind of pressure. We will follow him from here. Talent of the week is where the Journal looks a little further ahead than fight night.

Hamburg first.
Then the world.

06The campaign.

For fight week in Hamburg we built Kevin a full visual set: a fight programme and a red feed series. One face, one city, one date.
